CCC opens new site in Yorktown
The Country Childrens Center has opened a new site in February 2010 for 60 children .3 miles from IBM in Yorktown N.Y. There we will provide a safe, nurturing and consistent environment year round for children from infancy to preschool. After forty years of being in the community, our year round flexible service is designed to provide children with the quality of care they deserve, and the parents, with the assurance, convenience and peace of mind they need.
INTERGENERATIONAL PROGRAM HAS EXHIBIT at The Katonah Museum of Art
“Pieces of History, Seasons of Life”
A series of 4 mosaic benches created by the 2009-10 participants in the
Country Childrens Center Intergenerational Program
These mosaic benches are the product of the combined artistic efforts of children and senior citizens in our community working together for the past 4 months. The children and seniors met weekly. The mosaics, representing summer, fall, winter and spring, were created in part from broken pieces of china, pottery and dishes from the participants homes. Additionally painted ceramic tiles were introduced into the design. The tiles were created both by the group and by residents of Somers Manor Nursiing Home in Somers as well during the several field trips that the children made throughout the fall. The final result is a beautiful and functional representation of the time shared by these 2 age groups as well as the history and individuality of each of the participants.
Once the museum exhibit closes, the benches will reside at our childcare sites in Katonah as enduring reminders of the value and importance of seniors and children spending time together in our community. The CCC Intergenerational Program has been fostering this experience for children and seniors for 6 years. We have accomplished this by providing an environment where all participants can celebrate their similarities and grow in an understanding of their differences as they explore and express their artistic creativity.
